Augmentin 1000mg – Amoxicillin & Clavulanic Acid Tablets

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?
Augmentin 1000mg is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, and dental infections. It is effective against bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Augmentin contains Amoxicillin (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and Clavulanic Acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). Amoxicillin kills the bacteria, while Clavulanic Acid prevents bacteria from inactivating the antibiotic, thereby enhancing its effectiveness.

HOW TO USE?
Take Augmentin 1000mg as prescribed by your doctor, usually every 12 hours. Swallow the tablet whole with water at the start of a meal to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Do not crush or chew.

SIDE EFFECTS
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, skin rash, stomach discomfort
Less common: Vomiting, yeast infections, headache
Serious (rare): Liver issues, severe allergic reactions, persistent diarrhea (C. difficile)
Seek medical advice if severe or unusual symptoms occur.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it’s nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver problems, allergic reactions to penicillin, or kidney disease

  • Prolonged use may lead to secondary infections such as fungal infections

WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Severe skin rash or itching

  • Yellowing of eyes or skin (jaundice)

  • Severe diarrhea or abdominal pain

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?
Inform your doctor if you are using:

  • Allopurinol, methotrexate, or warfarin

  • Oral contraceptives (effectiveness may be reduced)

  • Probenecid or other antibiotics
Always inform your doctor of all medications being taken.
